Still buzzing on Louie Fresco’s Modern Amusement remix? We still are…

This is the second round of Louie Fresco/Mexa Records posts on the blog machine. Just recently delivered, No Hateration and an Untitled, tagged as deep ghetto house are short clips from two upcoming songs from Mexa Records founder, Louie Fresco. Both are still unsigned.

And while we’re at it, Kiko Deal and Jay Blakk (co-founder of Mexa Records alongside Louie Fresco) aka Climbers, have some delicious edits, spanning the last few months floating around the Mexa Soundcloud that I’m tacking on below the No Hateration Previews.

Tom Trago…

September 29, 2011

d

Born in 1983, Tom Trago, iconoclast status in hand, still may need some introduction:

The Dutchman from Amsterdam has been customarily at the forefront of electronic music, now for the last ten years. Starting as most do, dj’ing, the intrinsic Tom Trago gained footing with Live with the BBQ {buy here} debuting in 2006. Having reaped cult status with the 2006 single Trago found a place as a keystone contributor to the prominent and esoteric Rushhour Records in Amsterdam. Three years following the release of Voyage Direct {buy here}, pillared as a binding interpretation on Disco and House music, Trago pioneered in motion a musical platform, a repeated kind of breeding role carried out by so many virtuous musicians that was founded in 2005, called 08Bar promoting local productions. In March Trago released his first first full length solo album, as it be, a rarer event as we move further beyond the 2,000 mark entitled Iris {buy here}. Album collaborations included such as Tyree Cooper, Oliver Daysoul, Om’Mas Keith and Romanthony.

Music snobs like myself, not to love Romanthony would be an abomination of dance music doctrine appertaining to an ilk of vocalists that need to be deeply discerned from radio city rubbish and what is just commercial success.

You can grab Steppin’ Out – Tom Trago feat. Romanthony here.

In the vein of wrapping this up, I will leave you with a subtle, light and dark dub remix of Tricksi‘s new original production, Good Time To Pray on Suol Records.

Grab the Ep, other duties charged to Ernesto, Axel Boman and Soul Minority here.

Nëim Records Release

September 29, 2011

d

The Bad Girl Ep, is coming to us from Guadalajara, Mexico via Nëim Records. This is Nëim’s tenth release, the slow tempo-ed Ep features Berliner Yapacc and Fadila on vocals, consisting of the title track, Bad Girl, accompanied by two remixes, one from The Midnight Perverts and a steady remix from the WiLDKATS. You can read our interview with the WiLDKATS here.

No problem with the after hours vibe here, it’s a well suited techno-house look for Nëim and everyone involved [highly rating], look out for the digital release, coming October 18th.

An Interview with Prince Club

September 28, 2011

d

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us guys.

It’s our pleasure man ! Thx for taking interest in our stuff !

Where are you right now?

We are both based out of Europe right now. Zach in Berlin, Me (Max) in France, in the beautiful region of Catalunya.

If you’re picking themes, what is September going to sound like…?

Well winter is coming, so we think a bitter more cold, darker/deeper because the days are shorter, but still very orange and red like the foliage haha ! but maybe with purple and blue tones :)

Prince Club used to be Madkids, can you talk about changing names?

It’s pretty simple, after Meeting Riva Starr he said our name sucked and didn’t do justice to our music. But a couple weeks before we thought about it as well. So we already had a name in mind and a branding. So it felt like a good timing. And also we didn’t want to be named Madkids at like 27 or something… We feel like we can mature and grow with the name Prince Club.

I tried to sound cool the other day, because I wanted to give your sound a name. Is ‘mineral house’ more right or more wrong?

Yeah ! Zach and I say a lot of stupid stuff when we are  togheter  and one day we just came up with a name for our music and it stuck. Haha ! By the way you wanna write it like this, ”Mineral Hauze.” Hahaha !

Can you talk about your release with Jesse Rose, on Made To Play?

I don’t know we have to ask Jesse… Jesse can we talk about the release ?

I know y’all are from Canada

Yes. From Montreal.

Recently it’s like there’s a lot of not just good, but really great dance music being made in Canada, do you agree?

I do agree. A lot of people have been killing it. For example we met up with our homies from Montreal, Lunice and Jacques Greene this weekend in London. Both of them were playing Fabric !

Big ‘like’ on the mix you guys did for Mark Knight.

Haha thx so much man ! yeah… that’s a good look I guess :) We are very fortunate and lucky to have someone like Mark take interest in our music. And at the same time it justifies all these hours you spend in front of the computer makin’ music.

I was really loving the ‘Drug Girl’ track in that mix. Is that new new because I can’t find it online anywhere?

Thank you. Yeah it’s a secret one we’ve been keeping up our sleeve. We have a couple more like that we can’t wait to put out.

I panned through some of your old mixes while writing this.

Haha awesome. I smoked a big ***** while writing this haha.

Something you guys made in April with a Super Flu track in it, that sounded very tropical.

House of Damon?

You guys are feeling the movement of house music getting deeper and deeper yeah?

I mean I think it’s the normal process of house music. I think it’s getting more mature , it hasn’t been around for that long so there is still so much to explore and create. So much inspiration to grab from the old stuff or the stuff thats considered more ”underground”. Its the normal circle of things. right now that sound is hot…some sound thats been hot a couple years ago will probably be the new hot sound in a couple years again. Just transformed and adjusted to the new generation of the audience.

The resurgence of late 80′s early 90′s house sounds, we’re loving it. You guys seem onboard going by your Resident Advisor charts, mixes etc. Is that true?

Yeah, I guess, I mean it’s not on purpose we just play stuff that we like… it’s just like I told you, so much stuff from those years is still so relevant.

So aside from the track listing on the Ministry Mix, what kind of music are you listening to?

All kinds of stuff. A lot of pop, hip-hop, rap, indie. But honestly for myself I love radio stuff. Rihanna, Katy Perry, ect… We love the over produced aspect of it. lol. For instance we love the new Rihanna single “We Found Love” haha.

What are your top five tracks at the moment?

So hard to answer that one. Can we scratch that one?

dtyd was born and raised in Austin, Texas, which is deep as far as the South is concerned.

Heard a lot of cool stuff about Texas and Ausitn. Looks kinda dope honestly haha !

We’d love to see y’all in Austin.

We’d love to play in Austin !

Maybe SXSW?

Please !

It’s kind of our claim to fame.

Understandable. SXSW is insane.

Are you familiar with the SXSW week in March?

Yes !

Okay, just a few more questions, some easy ones.

Would you rather play:

A mid-day downtown rooftop or a dank sweaty underground joint?

or attend:

A mid-day downtown rooftop or a dank sweaty underground joint?

Can we play both the day party and the underground joint? And then the day after attend another day party to recover?

on…

acid or ecstasy?

We are honestly not that into drugs. But if I had to chose I’d say ecstasy. It’s less intense hahaha.

in Croatia or Brazil?

Wow that’s a hard one! I’m sure Croatia is dope and the eastern European girls are amazingly beautiful, but at the same time Brazil is kinda legendary.

and lastly,

What are you drinking,

Ice-T or Kool Aid?

or,

something stronger?

Our drink of choice is rye and ginger. But when it’s hot you always need some Ice-T or Kool Aid ;)

Junior Boys @ the Mohawk

September 26, 2011

d

The art synth pop, minimal techno, U.K. garage, contemporary hip-hop inspired Junior Boys from Ontario and Toronto bread, Night Slugs, Egyptrixx will be coming together at the Mohawk, September 27th, Tuesday, for a celestial kind of Canadian club experience. To date, most recently releasing on Domino Records, Junior Boys can still claim to fame their nine minutes plus of “dance hit glory” called Banana Ripple as a revelling, poppy, likewise hip, hipster-ish voyage through a continually fluctuating, amalgamation of poppy riffs and catchy lyrically driven melodies.

As for fellow Canadian Egyptrixx, his bio says this in regards to the music, it’s “a shifting balance between melodic and dissonant, rapturous and antisocial.” Now Magazine says it’s “dirty, sleazy bass-heavy club beats.” Really, so what does this sound like? Come out and see?
