Forgoing much of today’s popular trends in dance music, ranging from low slung disco and similarly, deep house-producers like Kidnap Kid are forging a new sound. Predominantly a UK thing at the moment. As a whole–I’m not going to get into genres here–the aforementioned artists are successfully breathing a classic, timeless, “house” vibe into their productions, while totally avoiding sounding archetypical; and without sacrificing an ounce of danceability. Kidnap Kid’s remix rendition for like minded producer duo, Disclosure, delivers an incredibly refreshing new set of sounds–low pitched vocal edits, and luscious, tropicool pads that should wet even the driest and mundane of palettes right up!

They finally unlocked SoundCloud at work again [sigh of relief], so instead of totally exterminating a bunch of lingering tasks, I spent a couple of hours cruising around SC. Among lots of other things, this really caught my ear: a smooth, percussive hip-house production by Ugly Drums (from Cologne Germany), with what I think is the beautiful sound of a kalimba in the background, playing all kinds of footsie with a host of other seriously beautiful, percussive sounds. This is the first time Ugly Drums has come up, but it shan’t be the last. Straight up lullabies…d

Since returning form a brief hiatus, Casual Encounters seem to be keeping pretty busy. In addition to churning out a couple cool mixes-my personal favorite being the one for the dance ’til you’re dead blog (wink wink)–the Houston/Boston duo are giving away a killller, acidic new tune with Los Angeles based artist, Rhythm Operator. Not quite so new, but nonetheless, epic–future-bass/future-garage (whatever you want to call it) producer–one of San Francisco’s finest–Kozee delivers a massive, funky, chill-out production, bolstered by expert horns and a tidy selection of pads, sprinkled with an ongoing vocal sample from the Hoop Dreams documentary. Gettin’ it done.

Birthed in the basement of a Caribbean restaurant–as it goes–Disco Bloodbath–the East-London disco cult headed by djs Damon Martin, Ben Pistor and Dan Beaumont (now ex-Bloodbath)–have just supplied this gripping sneak-peek of their their first release/single (turned Ep) due out in July. That Ain’t Right, produced by Bloodbath co-founder, Mr. Martin, is a tufffff, 909 clanker – heaping with all sorts of gnarly snares and a fresh, but still classic-house disposition, echoed by a ringing voice telling you that, “that ain’t right,” but it soo is.

PS: Due to pressure from the label, we’ve had to replace the full clips. We do apologize. You’ll probably be able to hear the full thing sooner than later.

The B side features two remixes, one from the Canadian duo, Waze & Odyssey, the other from the threesome Legendary Children, also from London (go figure)… Both takes easily exceed anything run-of-the-mill–still, Waze’ & Odyssey’s effort, came up rather “redundant,” so I’ve omitted it from today’s post. On the other hand I’m drooling over LC’s acid tinged banger. H-u-geness.

Speaaaaking of acid, the Audio Parallax clan sent over this sterling (quirky) burner this weekend, part of Al Gobi’s, Gobi One Kinobi Ep. The release features two originals and three remixes by: 6th Finger, NY*AK and Last Waltz, that are all worth checking out, just couldn’t sardine them all in here. Acid is gooood.

It’s about that time – time for another Lee Webster update. If you missed it, Lee put together a pumpin’ garage mix for us a month ago, which you can download here.

First up, this’ Lee’s newest production, and possibly one of my favorites to date – submerging into a dark, thunderous world of heavy, winding, bass lines, and spiraling, bleepy synths, shrouded in a spooky, ghoulish vocal reprise.

Yesterday was a bit of a slow day for new music, but today’s string of discoveries, doubly makes up for yesterday’s absence (as if you even noticed)… Londoner, Citizen, starts out with much of the usual deep house sentiments with his new track, Members Only – further listening, has led me to see that this rugged slice of soulful, Chicago-era-inspired house (which is maybe not so usual) – maybe it’s the thrashing cymbals, or maybe it’s in the grumbling (unpredictable) percussive breaks – exceeds ‘the usual’ parameters by a couple hundred miles and then some. I’m kicking myself – after promising never to post a Rolling In The Deep remix, here I am, posting one. Nevertheless, (with the following cut as incontrovertible proof), it’s fair to say Citizen has his hand on the pulse of something really dope here. Started scrambling, right when I heard this, to find information about the Scottish Producer that’s calling himself Drums of Death. This is so new, that’s right so new, that all I can actually report is what I read under the rip of the song on Youtube. If you like what you hear, all I know at this point is that Waves City, taken from the Scottsmans’ Ep, Blue Waves, is the final part of an Ep trilogy. More info here. This is gonna’ be a classic – they don’t get any classier than this either.

Sort of late to the party on this one, but Cosmic Kids are now, officially a new point of interest on my music map. Since hearing their Desire Remix, which was released ages ago, I’ve been mildly obsessed with the L.A. duo. I started investigating a little bit and was able to yank this killer little edit of a track called Gee Up–originally performed by an artist (that definitely rivals in terms of coolness) named Kindness–off their SoundCloud. Enjoy!

Being a solid supporter of both Fantastic Man and Edit Murphy left me no other choice, but to slap this up before practically even listening to it. Taken from Edit Murphy’s forthcoming Brooklyn Nights Ep on Smoke N’ Mirrors (not to be confused with Smoke and Mirrors), the release will include two originals, Need You (which was recently featured on Om Records‘ stellar, Om Lounge Compilation) and Brooklyn Nights. In addition to the fantastic remix from Fantastic Man, aka Mic Newman below, the Pillow Talk trio, from San Fran will also be making their appearance with a remix of Need You. Coming soon.
